Devo(pronounced DEE-vo by most and occasionally spelled in all capital letters; although members of the group refer to themselves with the emphasis on the second syllable.) is an American rockgroup formed in Akron, Ohioin 1972. Their style has been variously classified as punk, industrialand rock, but are most often considered to be the 70s/early 80s New Waveband that ushered in the synth pop of the 1980s, along with other acts such as Gary Numanand The B-52's. Devo's music and stage show mingle kitsch science fiction themes, deadpan surrealist humor, and mordantly satirical social commentary, often dealing with the concept of De-Evolution, in sometimes-discordant popsongs that often feature unusual synthetic instrumentation and time signatures. Their work has proved hugely influential on subsequent popular music, particularly New Wave, alternativeand grungemusic, they created some memorable music videos popular in the early days of MTV. The name "Devo" comes from the concept of Devolution (also referred to by the band as "de-evolution").

Ohio Lyrics

Devo

it was a day like this and my house burnt down
and the walls were thin and they crashed to the ground
it was a day like this and my life unwound
you could've struck me a line and that's okay now
we could always put it together again
you could've told me a lie, and a lie so thin, so thin
now everything's clear
day after day and the life goes on
and I try to see the good in everyone
if I ever find myself here again
I'll give everything
